Meiling buffing FWTT?

Amidst all the drama in the Caribbean recently, we are approaching our very own fashion season, starting with Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago, which kicks off tonight.

Interestingly enough, even though FWTT officially starts tonight in Tobago, Trinidad's fashion doyenne Meiling has decided to opt out of showing her collection at FWTT this year.

Instead, she will be showing her collection, Noir at a fashion showcase by hot Caribbean-American events company Antilia at the Carlton Savannah ... on the very same night that FWTT is starting.

Hmm... What's going on here?

Top Caribbean fashion blog CFStyle.com recently interviewed her about it and writes that Meiling took the decision "to safe guard the integrity of her collection and brand."

In-ter-est-ting.

The 3-night Antilia event is set to be a hot one - perhaps even hotter than FWTT ... with Jamaican-American supermodel Tyson Beckford set to host and it girl Vashtie Kola set to showcase her Violette line on the Sunday.

Not to mention that the phoenix-like Anya Ayoung-Chee is going to be showcasing her lines too - Pilar, which she debuted last year at FWTT and a newer line, called perhaps tongue-in-cheekily Anya de Rogue.

It leaves us with a lot of questions like ...

So will be upstage FWTT? Why aren't Meiling and Anya showcasing at FWTT? It's a bit odd for Trinidad's top designer not to showcase at the country's main fashion week - you don't see top American designers opting out of New York Fashion Week or top French designers buffing Paris Fashion Week.

What do you make of it all, islandistas?
