Bits and pieces - Leona's race ban, red carpet sightings and Rihanna to speak out

You know every now and then we have to do a pelau post when there's so much going on that we need to put it all in de pot! This is one of those - we have news from all over - on Ri-ri, Leona (Le-le?) and islandistas on the red carpet from Rio to London to L.A.

So to start with - islandistas have been all over people's red carpets over the last week - from the premieres of the Michael Jackson This Is It movie in London and Los Angeles, to Fashion Rocks in Brazil.

Check out a few of the looks below.

Does 'Skerritt Bwoy' hate women?

My. God.

That was about all I could manage to say when I first saw the video above of Dutty Fridaze in Los Angeles.

As an islandista, I was just ashamed. The people making themselves look like complete savages. There are just so many ugly stereotypes bouncing up in that video, I can't even begin to mention.

First thought in my head 'This daggering thing gone waaaaaaaaaay too far now.'  It's bad enough that idiots have been breaking off their penises attempting to dagger in bed.  And if the men are doing that to their penises, imagine what this daggering is doing to women's wombs? *shudder*

Worse,  daggering doesn't have anything to do with dancing, it is just vicious jucking. Heel and toe is a dance. Willie bounce is a dance. Nuh linga, gully creepa - all dem tings, those are dances. You actually have to have some co-ordination and rhythm to do them.

Daggering? Not so much. In fact, not at all.

Like many other people, including a lot of Jamaicans when the vid first popped up in inboxes or on FB or wherever, I thought the folks involved were Jamaicans.

But in checking out the dancehall sites like one876 and yardflex and thing, I found out that Skerritt Boy isn't Jamaican at all and a lot of yardies are veeeeeexxxxx that he is casting a bad light on them.

Skerritt Boy is actually an Antiguan deejay and ... 'dancer' - ye, I had to put that in inverted commas cos I ent know how pelting a table can be considered dancing. De man literally pelt a table and lick down de woman. wtf?!

His 'performance' was just awful, violent, disgusting and that, combined with his very tight pants and colourful hair, makes me wonder if this man even likes women at all?

What makes it worse (oh yea, there's more) is that this fool is actually proud of his now internationally televised idiocy. On a post about it on the maddecent blog, he had the nerve to boast about it:
"Gal get beat up when dem dance! I love dem. they love me. but i gotta express my love physically. i only hit you cause i love you girl."

Lord... I think some of my brain cells died just reading that damn foolishness but he ent fooling a damn soul with that 'I love dem'. I sure he would get frighten if he ever spy an exposed titty. Nobody can convince me that this fool likes women in any way.

Worse, pure people bigging up the man on his MySpace page, telling him he 'gone worldwide'.

I can't deal with it... this gone past ghetto.

UPDATED: Tsk...

Update: Ok magazine and several other media outlets are reporting that Rihanna and Chris are now holed up at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel Beverly Hills Hotel. After jetting 'home' from Miami on Sunday night (see post below) they decided not to return to their individual homes in L.A. but 'hide out' at one of the most famous hotels in celebrity-land.

Eh. Because the paps are not going to find you if you check in at one of the most famous celeb landmarks in LA, which they regularly stake out anyway.

Stupse... this foolishness humbugging me now though. It need to stop in truth.

Tsk. These very grainy pictures are apparently of Chris Brown and Rihanna leaving Miami late last night on their way back to Los Angeles... you know, because Chris has his court date on March 5th and all.
As you would have doubtless heard by now, the two have reportedly made back up and were holed up in Diddy's villa in Miami Beach for the past few days.

Chris has been photographed at the villa jet-skiing and whooping it up like he didn't have a care in the world ... that's care, not career... but he ent got that either. Meanwhile, Rihanna was M.I.A in Mia. to the point that folks were wondering if she really was in Miami after all.

But from the looks of these pictures, it seems so. Below you can see individual pics of Rihanna and Chris heading to the plane and a close up of Chris in a car on his way to the takeoff area.

Remember where you came from...

We quite liked these pics snapped of Rihanna as she puttered about LA preparing for the Grammies this Sunday.
WENN[/caption]

We love it not just because of the fab looks on both girls - though we do love the floaty white skirt and quirky touch of the pearls on Rihanna and the plaid shirt in Barbados' national colours on her best friend Melissa.

But the obvious genuine friendship and camraderie evident is good to see. Often celebs end up surrounded by fake friends who can be their downfall. But Rihanna has clearly decided that the small matter of a few thousand miles of sea and land (Melissa studies in Trinidad) is not going to keep her from her real friends and you see Mel around so often, you would be forgiven for thinking she lives in the States.

It brings to mind a comment Rihanna made to men's magazine Complex in 2007 about how she keeps grounded amidst the madness of the entertainment biz.
I'm just not that type to get sucked into bullshit. Everyone has control over what they do as an individual. I'm very sure about who I am as a person and what I'm here to do. I'm here in LA but I am still not here in LA. I come from a very different place and it gives me an advantage.

Good on her.

In other news, LisaRaye McCoy-Misick is still talking... and talking... and talking to essence.com about her two-year marriage to the premier of Turks and Caicos, Michael Misick. And it is pure hilarity, commess, and pappy-show-ness.

On their jet-setting lifestyle:
ESSENCE.com: What sort of things were you interrogated about?

LISARAYE: Our lifestyle. Like, how many times we rented a jet before we purchased our own jet. I told them to my recollection he bought me a jet and we never leased one. Actually, I was going to refurbish the entire jet, which I flew back and forth to Los Angeles in, by adding the family crest in the carpet and some flat screen televisions, and I wouldn't have done that if I was leasing. Also, our credit card and bank statements were examined to figure out where certain monies were coming from, and I signed a loan document for $6 million that I thought was for a house we were building in Los Angeles.ESSENCE.COM: Why would you allow yourself to be placed in the dark on such important personal affairs?
LISARAYE: I don't expect the readers to understand this lifestyle. This lifestyle that I married into was even new for me and on some other level. Things are done differently on this level, so if you have never been there, you can't imagine, because some things just can't be taught. When you are dating or married to a man of Michael's magnitude, you're not sitting there paying the water and electric bills. You have business accountants handle that.

Woman, please. Spare us, do cos yuh talking blasted shite. We got to call a spade a spade. NO PM, Premier or President in de Caribbean ent ballin' like dat. All in T&T, Manning try to ease and lease a private jet through BWEE and people fall in he tail cos they say Trinidad can't afford it. So if big-able T&T that got oil money fuh days can't afford it, how in de hell the premier... not even Prime Minister! of TCI gine afford it? Stuuuupssssssse... And she talking bout how de lifestyle was "on some other level". For damn sure cos it was mock like a $21 bill!

If you can stomach it, the rest of the interview is over on essence.com. In four parts no less - serialising like it is a damn soap opera. Fadda...
